Dear Wig Maker,

I’ve been following along your “Dear Wig Maker” series, and it’s been eye-opening in the best way. You’ve shared a lot about the technical side of wigs, but I’m curious about the personal and human side of making wigs too.

Over the years, has there been any moments or interactions with clients that really stuck with you? Maybe something small that reminded you why you do what you do, or just made you pause and think?

Looking forward to hearing more and staying inspired,

Reader on Robertson

Dear Reader on Robertson,

Thank you for the thoughtful question. I love that you’ve been following along , and trust me, I’ve learned just as much from the women who walk through the door.

There are countless memories that stand out in my mind.

However, the following story has a special place in my heart.

A woman with alopecia came into the salon. She had been wearing glue-on wigs that were irritating her skin, and she needed an alternative. She had no idea that glueless options even existed. The moment she saw herself in one of our lace tops, she burst into tears, and honestly, we all did too.

Another time, a high school girl who was battling cancer, came into the salon and she had just shaved her head before her wig fitting. She didn’t want to look in the mirror while we worked. Once the wig was on and ready she turned around and felt so good staring back at her reflection. Some time went by, and her mother called expressing that her daughter needed a lift me up. Prom was coming up and she was not feeling her best. I invited them back to the salon where my team and I cut and styled her wig, glammed her up, and she left glowing. That one stayed with me.

And then there are the Jewish women who decide, sometimes after years, that they want to start covering their hair again. Those moments feel extra sacred. Like I’ve been invited to witness something deeply personal, and I also get to play a small part in it.

Every story is different. But when someone walks out feeling a little more like themselves, that really makes it worth it.

With love + great hair,

Tallie
