Honoring Our Heroes: A Heartfelt Thank You to America's Veterans

As the sun sets on another Veterans Day, we pause to reflect on the unbreakable spirit of those who’ve served. The above image, a wounded warrior, back turned to the camera, leaning on crutches yet standing tall before the Stars and Stripes, captures it perfectly. Clad in camouflage, pack heavy with the weight of duty, he strides forward. Not in retreat, but in quiet defiance. This isn’t defeat; it’s resilience forged in fire.

To our veterans, from the beaches of Normandy to the sands of distant lands, and especially those in our own Jewish community who’ve answered the call with courage and conviction: Thank you. You’ve guarded freedoms we hold dear, from the liberty to light Shabbat candles without fear to the right to build lives of meaning and mitzvot. Your sacrifices echo the timeless Jewish value of pikuach nefesh, saving lives, including ours.

From all of us at the LA Jewish Home, veterans, families, and friends—thank you for your service. You've earned more than a day; you've earned our eternal respect.
