Dear Wig Maker,
I’ve been wearing wigs for years now, and I absolutely adore how they let me switch up my style with ease, but I’m really struggling with picking the right hair color. My natural shade is a warm, understated brown, and I’ve stuck with that for comfort and familiarity, but lately, I’ve been daydreaming about something bolder, like a rich auburn to add some warmth or even a soft blonde for a fresh change. I’m in my late 40s, though, and I’m a bit nervous that a drastic shift might look too youthful or just not suit me, especially with my fair skin. I’ve seen some stunning wigs online, but I’m hesitant, should I play it safe and stick with what I know, or should I take the plunge and try something new? I’d love to hear your thoughts and any tips you might have for someone like me who’s ready for a little transformation!
Best Regards,
Eager in Encino
Dear Eager in Encino,
I completely understand your hesitation, choosing a new hair color is such a personal journey, and it’s wonderful that you’re ready to explore!
That warm, understated brown has served you well, but you’re at a perfect age to embrace a change that reflects your vibrant spirit.
Since you’re thinking about going lighter, it’s always nice to start with highlights in the shade you’re already wearing and gradually lighten over time, it’s just less of a shock! If going light too quickly feels like too much of a leap, you can definitely ease in with highlights or a balayage to test the waters and see how it suits you.
I’d love for you to come into the salon with a trusted family member or friend who can give you an honest opinion, it really makes all the difference!
Have you thought about getting your color palette done? It could reveal the shades that really make you shine and bring out your best features.
Don’t worry about looking too youthful; confidence is what makes any color work, and I have no doubt you’ll rock it!
You deserve this little transformation, can’t wait to hear how it turns out!
With love + great hair,
Tallie
