What do we do first thing when we wake up in the morning?
You guessed it!
We say, Mode Ani, thanking our Creator for giving us another day.
The following poem can remind us to stay thankful and pleasant throughout the day:
Cordials are chocolate, with filling so sweet.
Just like nice words, when people we meet.
Be positive when approaching someone to greet.
It will accomplish a pleasant, HaShem pleasing fete!
Start each morning with a smile so wide,
and say “good morning” with cheer you don’t hide.
A simple thank you means a lot.
It shows you care and hits the spot.
When asking for a treat or a toy,
saying “please” will bring a spark of joy.
If you bump or interrupt someone’s flow,
Saying, “excuse me” is the way to go.
At bedtime when the stars shine bright,
Say to those you love a sincere “good night”
Use these manners both near and far,
They show the kind of person you are.
Please, thank you, and excuse me too.
Good morning and good night, hooray for you!
This is all in keeping with what our sages in Pirkei Avot advise: “Sayver Panim Yafot” ( Receive every person with a cheerful countenance.)
