Warning to the community: A man known as "Chaim Abuhatzeira"—whose name is also Haim Ovanounou—is falsely claiming to be a mekubal and manipulating people with fabricated stories and threats.
This individual, approximately 63 years old, has been seen recently in Monsey (often near Viznitz or the Rimnitz Cemetery), and is already banned from Monroe. He is not a mekubal and is not connected to the Abuhatzeira family. In fact, we are uncertain of his Jewish identity at all.
His stories are entirely invented, often involving threats, false miracles, and tragic consequences to those who “don’t believe.”
He’s been known to claim both that he’s a father of six children with cancer and, conversely, that he’s divorced with no children, depending on who he’s talking to. This deception is particularly dangerous to women, especially those being drawn in for “special tikunim” that he claims require secrecy from their husbands. Women, please stay away.
He has been described as manipulative, predatory, and emotionally dangerous.
He raises large sums of money under false pretenses, some victims have reported losing hundreds of thousands of dollars. He targets wealthy individuals with skillful manipulation and fear tactics.
Although most reports list him in New York, there have been multiple confirmed sightings of him soliciting in Los Angeles. He is mobile, elusive, and continues to pose a risk in both regions.
If you’ve been scammed or have any information, we urge you to reach out confidentially to expose.chaimabuhatzeira@gmail.com.
We’re building a case and welcome your tips, evidence, and clear photos (with time and location if possible). Everything will be kept strictly confidential.
This is a community warning. Please share with those who may be at risk.
