Derech Eretz Corner:THE MAGIC of FOLLOW THROUGH - KEEPING our WORD

A promise is a little seed planted with all one’s heart.
It grows each time you follow through on what you said you’d start.
If you keep your promise, and stick to your word, it grows so big and true.
It shows those you know that without a doubt, they can count on you.
As religious Jews, however, we always say “blee neder”
(Just in case we don’t have time or there is a change in the weather.)
We try our best to do whatever we said we would.
Sometimes Hashem has other plans, and we can’t, though we thought we could.
It’s best to be sparing with promises and simply say:
“I’ll try."
It will be easier then if it can’t happen , to let our friend know why.
When we open up and use our mouth, we should do what we say or things can go
“south."
So whatever we say, make sure that we do thus,
Lest “hypocrite“ become a new name for us!!
Note for parents: it’s extremely important to set a good example in this area.
We need to consistently show our children that what we SAY, we DO, (whether it be
a prize or a consequence.)
We are their main source of education. They see and hear EVERYTHING we do and
say
