AJC Los Angeles raised $900,000 last week at its 44th Learned Hand Award Dinner, held at the Skirball Cultural Center, where it honored Los Angeles family law attorney Stacy D. Phillips, the Los Angeles Business Journal reported.

The money will go toward combating antisemitism and other forms of hate and supporting the American Jewish Committee's mission of promoting democratic values, according to the Business Journal.

The award and the honoree

The Judge Learned Hand Award is AJC's honor for attorneys whose professional accomplishments and community service promote justice. Phillips was presented the award by Alan Hoffman, her former boss and a past recipient, the Business Journal reported.

Phillips is a partner at Blank Rome, where she has practiced for more than four decades and concentrates on high-net-worth and high-profile divorce and custody matters, according to the firm. The Business Journal reported that she has chaired Public Counsel, the pro bono law firm; helped draft the California law extending the time domestic violence victims have to file civil claims against their abusers; and founded the Adopt-A-Center Program, which mentors Los Angeles-area charities.

In her remarks, Phillips said she stands with AJC's mission to fight all forms of hatred, and that there is "no place in this world for antisemitism, racism, homophobia, Islamophobia," according to the Business Journal.

AJC's work in the region

AJC Los Angeles describes its regional work as advocating for policies that support the security of the United States, Israel and Jewish communities worldwide, maintaining relationships with nearly 100 members of the consular corps in Los Angeles, and building ties with Latino, Asian and Muslim communities across the Pacific Southwest, according to its website.

AJC Los Angeles has not publicly announced how the dinner's proceeds will be allocated or any specific new program tied to the event.
